QuickWedge® Cartridge Valve

The defining feature of the Gilmore QuickWedge® Cartridge Valve is the “cartridge”. The valves internal sealing parts and operating components are affixed to the bonnet, allowing for quick and easy service access, thereby reducing the potential for expensive downtime for maintenance.

The QuickWedge® design provides the ability to repair or re-trim the valve with relative ease in a minimum amount of time without any special tools.The QuickWedge® Cartridge Valve is a quarter-turn design providing low stem emissions compared to other valve designs. It also provides quick, reliable operation in emergency shutdown and other critical shutoff applications. The valve is also easily adapted to standard quarter-turn actuation. The mechanical seal is achieved by rotating a hemispherical wedge around a central fixed point (stem). The increased offset of the external sealing surface naturally applies force to the seat as rotation continues to the fully closed position. Throughout the opening and closing of the valve, the core maintains its stationary position within the closure member, which directs the fluid flow straight through the valve with minimal impingement of the seat ring or side of valve body. This results in less erosion in the valve body and longer seat life compared to conventional valves in flow streams containing sand, powder, scale and other particulates.

Gilmore QuickWedge® Cartridge Valves are available in a variety of sizes, pressure ratings, body materials, and trims complying with API 6A. The design is easily scalable, and work is also underway for valves complying with API 17D.

APPLICATION:

The Gilmore QuickWedge® Cartridge Valve is uniquely suited for a variety of critical Service applications in upstream oil and gas production and drilling. Specific applications include wellhead safety shutdown valves, critical isolation shutoff in gas gathering and gas storage, mud-diverter valves in managed pressure drilling, and production manifold valves.

The QuickWedge® Cartridge Valve is used as a mud-diverter valve in managed pressure drilling due to the valves ability to handle extremely abrasive fluids and easy/quick cartridge change-out. It is suited for safety shutdown use due to its hemispherical wedge shaped mechanical-seal feature in a quarter-turn operation and the ability to quickly open and close against extremely high fluid velocities. It can achieve zero-leakage shutoff at both high and low differential pressures, in temperature-cyclic conditions, and in high vibration installations. The hemispherical closure member can be contoured to provide variable flow control, including low flow throttling opening to a thru-conduit full flow.
